A flatplan is a visual, page by page diagram or map of a publication used to plan the layout of editorial content and advertisements. They are a quick sketch of where every element i.e masthead, image, subheadings, pull quotes, caption, text columns, etc sit on the page.

These are important as they provide a visual, birds eye overview of a magazine, ensuring efficient production control and logical content flow . It helps reduce errors, preventing duplicate content and testing out different layouts without spending much time on full design
