Making of Day 3 – The Bar Scene

For the third day of filming, we decided to be a bit more organised then in the other days, with a more strict filming schedule. On this filming day we had to film the very first scene in public so we wanted to be as quick and efficient as possible.

In this scene, me and Luca were supposed to be in a public place, along with one of my friends (Stefi) as an extra acting as my friend. I was supposed to seem uninterested and when I turned around I saw Luca and his angel wings and then transition into the field scene.

I will be structuring this post in

  • Preparing and packing
  • Arriving
  • Filming
  • Conclusion

Preparing and packing

The night before i had to get everything packed since the day of the filming we had school, meaning that i was not able to get home until the end of the day since i live very far from school. With that in mind, I started planning my outfit and packing the angel wings into a bag. On the day of the filmmaking I also had a meeting with my NGO group until 7 pm, so we settled to meet with the others at 7:20 at Yolka. We also decided to film on our iphone instead of our professional camera since this equipment would be hard to transport to the city centre.

Arriving (problem and solution)

I arrived first with the others being a little bit late and when I arrived at Yolka there was a lot of commotion coming from inside the pub. When I entered, I found out that there was a music quiz event and that it was packed, therefore we were unable to film at Yolka anymore. From here I decided to call stela and pick some more backup locations to film in. We settled on:

  • Sto
  • Che guevara
  • Planetarium

By then the whole group arrived and we started calling each of the establishments to figure out which one would be the best by asking questions such as “how many people are currently in your pub” or “is it okay if we film here”. Finally we got approval by Planetarium and we were assured that there were little to no people in there. We arrived there and chose a set that  had 3 other 3 tables free behind us in order to not get any other people in the shot.

Filming

This was a very short filming day since we were all very focused and tired from the school day and we managed to finish filming in 1 hour. We started by reviewing the script and the call sheet, making a few test shots and making sure that our visions were aligned. We settled on filming my eyes for about 10 shots in order for stela to be able to decide which one is the perfect one. We also needed to get more than 2 shots with the eyes so we just filmed all of them firstly.

We then moved on and filmed all the dialogue with us having to explain to Stefi her role and to help her get into character. This was surprisingly easy and fast to film since  Stefi was amazing. We ended the filming day by filming all of Lucas shots including his with the angel wings and his extreme close ups of his eyes.

Conclusion

This day was possibly the best filming day in my personal opinion since everyone took their part seriously and we managed to finish super fast. We also learned that using an iphone was more convenient than a professional camera, with the quality being only slightly worse.
