25. Photoshoot 2 // research & planning

This photoshoot is for the Featured Article

The concept of my photoshoot is to photograph different coloured outfits and explore how colour psychology in clothing influences a person’s mindset and mood. The central idea is that what we wear doesn’t just reflect how we feel, it can actively change it. Each image will represent a different emotional state, to match the blooming of spring, and how everything lightens up, so the outfits will be bright or pastel.

I chose the concept because I wanted to explore the relationship between colour psychology and identity. Fashion is often seen as purely aesthetic, but this highlights how it is more than that, and how often we choose to dress according to our mood, whether that is through the colours of our clothes or their style (loose, classic, bold). This idea helped me structure the photoshoot, with each colour representing a different emotional state.

This theme is particularly suited to my magazine because it combines elements of fashion, psychology, and lifestyle, which are key aspects aimed at a young audience, mainly females. Modern magazines often explore deeper topics such as self-expression and mental wellbeing, so linking colour to emotion makes the content more relatable and thought-provoking rather than just decorative and good-looking.

The model will remain the same throughout the shoot to emphasize transformation through colour alone. The clothing and props will align with a dominant colour in each frame, creating a visual and psychological impact, while the background will remain white for a clean composition and for the outfit colours themselves to stand out. In addition, I chose to keep the background white because my previous photoshoot already has nature in the background, so this will keep the flow and structure of the magazine and I won’t need to rely on finding background flowers for every colour.

An inconvenience:
I would have liked one of my models to be light-haired, because there are certain colours that fit them better, and although stereotypical, blond-haired people are associated with spring and the season's bright colour palette. But it's alright, I will ask my other friends, the important part is that I have two models for this photoshoot.

Model 1

Alexandra Serban:
Age - 17
Height - 167cm
Eye colour - Hazel/brown
Hair colour - curly black

Why I chose her: First of all she is my best friend, so I feel very comfortable around her, to make her pose in different kinds of ways, and it would be a more fun experience overall. She also has pretty features that I would like to highlight, such as her curly hair and hazel eyes. I've taken photos of her before (like this one), so we're used to working together too. And her nails are pink now! So she'll be dressing in the pink outfit and I can take some closeups of her hands holding flowers.

Model 2

Kaavya Valse:
Age - 17
Height - 165cm
Eye colour - dark brown
Hair Colour - long wavy dark brown

Why I chose her:
I have done photoshoots with her before and she looks very natural in photos, she is also in the media class so has a better idea of what is happening and how to shoot everything. Kaavya has a beautiful natural smile, but she can also pull off serious expressions. I also really like her wavy hair and think red would really complement her skin colour. When posing she just looks so natural, like she was born to model.

For photoshooting props:

I don’t really have it as a plan to add the props themselves on the magazine, maybe just as stickers, but since I’ll be there with access to all these props and equipment, it would be a lost opportunity not to take some, just in case. The props photographed will be close-ups of accessories, hand holding flower bouquet, and details on clothing.

For props I need a lot of flowers, and while preparing the outfits in my room I spotted my bouquet of colourful lego wildflowers and thought how would it work if I them instead of real ones? My boyfriend has a few more bouquets, so I don’t need to worry about where I’ll find more, and it would be a fun and creative idea to work with. I asked him about it and he said I could use them so that’s what I’m gonna do.

This photoshoot will be done at school with the help of my media studies teacher, who will lend me some equipment such as the white screen, reflectors, and other modifiers for light. It will take place in our school’s forum on a Sunday morning as there is a lot of space to create our own sort of studio and place everything. For it to be done properly I gave myself a week in advance to prepare.
