Editing – Skill Development Videos

When deciding how to approach the skill development interviews, I first thought about just recording each team member’s interview in the forest, near the filming location, and leaving it as a simple video. However, when reviewing the footage we captured that day, I realised our voices were very quiet, and the wind was very strong, which made for a very low quality, barely coherent sound. So, we recorded the interviews again, in my room this time, where there was no background noise. We also opted for an audio-only recording, as this way we could hold the phone close to ensure every word is heard.

The sound-only recordings were nice, but they were quite boring. I took inspiration from my interview for Romania’s got Talent, round 1, where they overlaid clips captured around my hometown, as well as clips of me around the set of the show, in order to make the scene more engaging. I decided to do the same for our skill development videos. So, I created a folder with every single clip we captured, for the preliminary work, the final work, and the initial failed interview attempts, and compiled sequences of raw footage, which also has relevance to what is being said in the interview in certain moments, for each video. After a tiny bit of colour-grading, the videos were ready to be presented. These videos are not meant to replace our skill development essays, but rather stand alongside them.
