When establishing the opening scene in my thriller movie selecting the proper props and tools was essential to establishing the tone and creating tension. Even on a budget shoot every aspect, from camera to costume was important in fleshing out the story. Filming on the iPhone 16 Pro Max allowed me to capture those cinematographic shots in location, while makeup, wardrobe and essential props created the world and characters. Catering to the crew handled those details so the shoot was a seamless, focused effort. Below is what I did and why it worked.
- iPhone 16 Pro Max
Why: I used this as my main camera. With its advanced video features including cinematic mode.It enabled me to capture great looking footage without the weight of a larger rig. It’s usually ideal for run-and-gun style filmmaking but I successfully adapted it for my thriller shots. - Makeup Kit. Why: I used it to accentuate the actors’ facial features and make the ghosts more realistic. It successfully established realism or discomfort towards the audience as they could clearly notice that the spirits were really pale and pushed the eerie atmosphere which is essential in a thriller.
- Clothing / Costume Pieces. Why: I bought clothes to fit your characters personalities or situations (clothing items or accessories). In thrillers clothing will often hinting at the backstory or mood (mysterious, vulnerable or sinister). The clothes also indirectly tell the audience the role of the character.
