We arrived around 4 pm and spent a short amount of time talking to each other and figuring out if we had everything that we needed. We also checked our equipment and we chose to use Luca’s bedroom as a filming location in order to give a more organic feel to the scene. We also spent some time talking to his family and drinking coffee.
After we finished setting up in the space, we decided to prepare the costumes and see which white shirt Luca could wear for this scene since we were supposed to make a large wound on the back using fake blood and eyeshadow, so the shirt we picked had to be something he would be okay with throwing out if the fake blood wouldn’t wash off.
Set up
We started by preparing the actors, and doing their hair and make-up. For the makeup part Mara did her usual routine and I helped by adding some black and grey eyeshadow where needed, in order to achieve the smokey look we had envisioned during planning.
Then we went on to start painting wound on Luca’s white shirt with fake blood. However, after finishing it it still looked a bit 2d and non realistic, so we added a center point with black eyeshadow in order for it to gain the depth that it needed to look more realistic. We also added fake blood to his neck, Mara’s face, and the knife which we handled carefully to prevent any injuries.
For the room, we started by setting up some led lights colored in order to create the desired atmosphere, settling on dark blue. We also set up the additional lighting fixture and positioned our camera on a tripod
Filming
We started by checking our some different angles and test shots in order to see which fit best with what we had in mind. Once we set up the camera I filmed some test shits of the two, trying to get a better feel for the composition, as well as letting them figure out what gestures and movements felt more natural. They decided it was easiest and safest to drop him onto the bed.
For the filming part it was pretty easy since it required only one static shot and 2 close-ups. We finished the main scene in about three takes, as the actors kept laughing, or having to struggle in the positions they were in. The CU we finished in two takes each. We were met with no problems and everything ran smoothly, due to our extensive prep work. In the end we made sure to check all of the recordings and we decided to download all of them to rewatch during editing.
Breaks
We finished the whole day by having a barbeque with Luca’s family which was the PERFECT way to end our filming day. We also ended up discussing our progress and talked about our following filming days.
