Research into DIGI-PAK conventions

In this post, I will research the conventions of digipaks in relation to music. Digipak CDs are used by artists and labels around the world to offer fans a limited-edition product, but what are they?

A digipak is the casing of a CD or DVD, often made out of card paper. They differ from the standard Jewel CD Case due to this, as Jewel cases are made entirely out of plastic with just paper inserts. Digipaks have plastic inserts inside to hold the CDs, whether it be one or more. There are many types of digipaks, like 6,8 and 10 sided ones. Below are images showing the difference between a regular jewel CD case and a regular 6 sided digipak.

These are the conventions of a DIGI-PAK

1.Front Cover

In the front cover of a digipak, it is important to have the artist or band name clearly visible for the people who want to buy the digipak, the album or EP title, usually a strong central image either of the artist or band or a symbolic imagery of the album or EP, next, it needs to have a consistent visual style that reflects the music genre and have limited text to keep it visually striking.

Here is an example of a front cover

2.Back Cover

On the back cover usually you will find the names of the songs in the album also the copyright and legal info, labelling records and producer credits

Here are some of the most popular labelling records that most albums belong to:

Here are some pictures of back covers:

3.Inside Panels

Lyrics, thank-yous, extra photos, artist messages, or detailed artwork that continues the theme, i have 2 examples here i have one from Bring Me The Horizon Sempiternal album which there are thank-yous where the CD is i will list a picture below

However, in my other one from The Neighbourhood WIPED OUT! album, the thank-you’s are in. little booklet where there are other pictures that describe the album.

4.Disk Art

This often matches the interior or exterior design in the case of The Neighbourhood album the disc art matches the back cover. I also observed in the both albums that i own is that The Neighbourhood album, the disc matches the back cover and in the Bring Me The Horizon album it matches the front cover art, which i listed down below.
