I took this \u201crisk assessment\u201d brief pretty literally, because for my music video project some of the risks actually involved a risk of death. For the sake of my finale, I went back to my hometown in Ukraine during a really heated time (my own stupidity, my own responsibility), and that decision affected pretty much everything about this project. <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main problem was a total blackout for about 80% of my stay in Odesa, which meant my camera couldn\u2019t be charged properly and my whole shooting schedule became unstable. On top of that, my best friend that filmed most of my preliminary project couldn\u2019t come with me, so I had to \u201cdirect\u201d my mom instead and also film some parts myself. She helped as much as she could, and later on my best friend did help with filming in France, but in Ukraine I was basically juggling being the director, actor and camera operator… all at once.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another risk was my costume choice. My dress was knitted and looked nice on camera, but it was definitely not enough for big minus temperatures in both Ukraine and France. We had to take shots really fast with not many takes, which is a weakness for the final product, and by the end of each session I could barely feel anything. I tried to fight it with thermal clothing, multiple shirts, a super warm jacket between takes and tea after every shot, but it was still absolutely torturous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And.. the risk I honestly want to talk about the least. The life risk. The whole 24\u2011hour road to Ukraine and being there at that time was dangerous. We knew it and still went, so it\u2019s on us. The scariest moment happened right after one of the filming sessions on the sea line. Around 18:00, already pretty dark, no electricity anywhere, my friend and I stayed on the beach filming fillers and just the vibe while the air\u2011raid warning was going off (which was so common that we didn\u2019t really pay attention).<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here comes the boom, quite literally. If we had thought for even one second, we would have remembered that all the missiles and drones usually come from the direction of the sea. Exactly where we were standing. Fast forward a few moments and we hear that whistling sound getting louder and louder, and in a matter of seconds you could actually SEE IT. The whole city was in total blackout, but, believe me or not, the pitch\u2011black sky suddenly turned bright orange for a split second when the defense system hit the missile not more than about 100m from us. We were already lying on the sand, face down, hugging each other and saying goodbyes (so dramatic XD) when the ground shook as the tectonic plates just decided to split once again, pieces of the rocket started falling on the shore next to us. Close enough that if I really wanted to I could have stood up and picked one up. That was my last visit to the beach on that trip, and definitely more than enough noradrenaline for my brain. Can’t say that it wasn’t fun, because oh boy. Lifetime experience. Like actually. 10\/10.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
