This is where the whole piece started to come together and really start looking like the film opening that i imagined when I started. I wanted to create something that felt creepy and eerie and spread tension through the audience. My main purpose was to create something that kept the viewer just a little bit unsure of what is going to happen and uncomfortable.

One of the most important stylistic decisions I made was using the black and white gothic filter for when the second meeting with the ghosts occurs. This added a dizzying and distorted look to the footage emphasizing the creepy atmosphere. It matched the psychological tone I was going for and made everything feel darker and more mysterious. I didn’t use slow motion, but I did speed up some scenes that were a little too slowly shooted to make everything flow in better way.

I also played with color granding even though the film is in black and white. I adjusted the brightness, contrast and sharpness to highlight the shadows and give more texture to the visuals. The result was a kind of enhancing to the atmosphere that reminded me of old horror films or thrillers.

Each edit I made had to match the sound effects that i previously added for example, when i added a click sound I synced it with a camera shake or scene cut. I made sure that the transitions lined up with the soundtrack so the audio and visuals worked together to build tension.

This phase really showed me how powerful editing can be. Every choice whether it was a filter, transition or bit of timing changed how the audience perceived the scenes while watching. In the end I think the editing style perfectly matched my genre and made the film opening feel unsettling which was my main goal.

Once I had the footage and sound in place I moved into the editing phase using Cap Cut .
