When designing the credits and title for my film opening, I wanted them to look professional while still being eerie and genre appropriate. I picked a goth style font because it immediately gives off a dark and creepy feeling that fit the thriller vibe of my story. The design had sharp, dramatic strokes and felt very stylized but I made sure it was still readable on screen while also not placing the focus on it.
Here are the credits I included:
• Directed by Popa Alexandra
• Starring Mihai Blaga, Matei Grigorovici and Anna Ursa
• Edited by Popa Alexandra
• Make up by Carla Stancu
I tested multiple fonts on dafont.com before choosing the final one. Some were too decorative and hard to read and not appropriate for my thriller at least as they were too bold while others looked too plain and didn’t match the vibe. In the end the Goth style font struck the right balance. I layered the text over the scenes using fade-ins and fade-outs so everything would look more put together. This felt more professional and helped with readability.
I also made sure the text was white on a black background cause that will make it easier to read but also look a little spooky somehow at least in my opinion . I tried not to lengthen the biggining by keeping the credits short and clean so they didn’t slow down the pace of the film in order to make sure that the audience doesn’t get bored.
